Chateau de Puymartin

This castle located in the Aquitaine region is said to be haunted by “La Dame Blanche” (the white lady). The spirit is probably the one of Thérèse de Saint-Clar, who spent 15 years locked in a small room in the chateau’s tower during the 16th century and died there. The story says she was imprisoned there by her own husband because he suspected her of having an affair. Today, her ghosts haunt the North Tower of the castles, where she died.

Chateau de Veauce

A sad story haunts this castle! Both the guide working in the castle and it’s owner have seen the ghosts of Lucie many times. Lucie was a young maiden working for Guy de Daillon, owner of the castle in 1560. In love with the young woman, the Baron tried to seduce her multiple times. His wife decided to imprison the girl in one of the castle’s jails, where she died. Today her spirit haunts the castle and many visitors have claimed to see her!

Chateau de Chambord

The biggest castle in the Loire Valley is also one of the most haunted places in the region! This beautiful castle has served as a country hospital during the Franco-Prussian War, and many soldiers spent their last days or hours there. Many visitors claim to have seen the spirits of dead soldiers roaming in the castle and in the gardens.

Chateau de Brissac

Another famous castle of the Loire Valley, and another gruesome story! Now filled with antiques and gold, this castle was the spot of a particularly bloody event. Jacques de Brézé, who lived in the castle during the XV century, discovered his wife Charlotte de Valois cheating on him with his childhood friend, Pierre de Lavergne. He killed both with a single sword strike. The spirits of the couple still haunts the castle today.
