Springtime in Bordeaux

Many Reasons for an Early Trip to Bordeaux

As the winter weeks drag on it is hard to imagine the dark skies that are filled with snow and rain giving way to clear skies filled with abundant warm sunshine. Springtime in France starts as early as March in the southern regions like Bordeaux, but April is said to be the best time to visit. Ironically that is the same time our tour season starts and since most of our tours are self guided you have plenty of time to explore at your own pace the sights you have been dying to see, as well as the food and wine you can’t wait to devour.

One recommendation for Bordeaux travelers is the Musée d’art Contemporain de Bordeaux. This museum has something unique to offer all year long, but this April is the last month to see the Johan Furåker’s The First Runaway. This collection consists of oil paintings and graphite drawings that depict the life of Albert Dadas—what he must have seen, experienced, and lived through. Albert Dadas, originally from Bordeaux, was the first “pathological traveler,” an uncontrollable and obsessive way of travelling without any apparent destination or aim, and with almost unfathomable memory gaps. Take a walk in Albert’s shoes as he travelled the world through the eyes of Johan Furåker.

Known for its wine, Bordeaux has something to whet every appetite whether it’s a glass in a chic bar or by the bottle with local gastronomy in a side-street bistro. Worth noting are a few new bars and restaurants everyone is raving about this season. If you’re in the mood for the best wine and cheese while relaxing in a cozy atmosphere filled with music then Wine and Soul is where you want to be. Looking for something more contemporary then check out the Le Boudoir Bar Bordeaux where vintage world coffees sit next to vintage Bordeaux wines.

With so much to eat, drink and see it is no wonder why many people pick Bordeaux as their early springtime destination in France.
