The Provence tour takes participants past castles, art museums, vineyards and lavender fields. This bike through Provence begins with a relaxing day in Avignon before departing past the vineyards of the renown ‘Cotes du Rhone’, then reaching St. Paul in the lavender country. Cyclists next stop at the Middle Ages town of Vaison la Romaine, which also contains ruins of an ancient Roman village. Guests can decide if they are up for the climb up Mont Ventoux for an incredible view. Other highlights include Coustellet (Lavender museum), Eygalieres’ panoramic view of the Durance River Valley and the Abbey of Saint Michel de Frigolet from the 10th century.
The ride ends back in Avignon, where visitors can choose to take a train back to Paris or add on extra days in France. We look for routes that avoid the traffic and connect with the region’s highlights.
Provence is one of the most beautiful regions of France, with its stunning lavender fields, vineyards and ancient heritage, and of course the stunning beaches of the Cote d’Azur. Here the weather is mild even in autumn and winter, so you can avoid the summer heat by going there in September, October, even November ! Moreover by the end of summer you will be able to see the lavender harvest, or experience the grape picking time and the “vendanges”, which are both part of the local tradition.
Our “Provence Best Of – Cycling Tour” journey falls into the Moderate or Challenging category. As usual, we can customize a different itinerary in the region to met the needs and interests of the group. For each cyclist, we provides information on the area, training tips, contact information and access to 24/7 local support. Orientation in Avignon explains the route book so participants can ride at their own pace.
