2011 Tour de France
After much anticipation from the cycling community, the Tour de France route for 2011 is finally here. This year, like all the previous years, is going to be filled with epic climbs, close sprint finishes, changing of jerseys and excitement from the thousands of spectators at every stage.
To kick off the Tour, on Thursday, June 30th, there is a presentation of the teams at Le Puy du Fou. A couple days later the real action starts in Vendee.
July 2 through July 24 the Tour de France competitors will endure 10 flat stages, 6 mountain stages with 4 summit finishes, a team time trial, an individual time trial and only 2 rest days. It is worth noting that the Col du Galibier (first appearing in the 1911 TDF) will be climbed twice within an interval of 24 hours. Stage 18’s summit finish will be the highest finish in Tour history at 2, 645 meters. With 15 new stage towns, the 98th Tour de France is sure to be one for the record books.
