France Museum 2012 Updates

France has many contributions which makes it one of the most visited countries in the world. It boasts decades of world shaping history, chateaux that have stood the test of time, landscapes second to none, quaint villages on hilltops, and famous museums, not just in Paris, but spread throughout the country. The museums are the highlight of many tourists’ visit to France; this is reaffirmed with one look at the hundreds of people waiting outside any given museum waiting for it to open. Many come to see the well-known masterpieces, but some are up to date with the new exhibits. Here are a few museums updates and what one can expect in the next couple of months.

Louvre-Lens

The Louvre will open a new regional branch in the northern city of Lens this December. Sitting on 50 acres, the new museum will rotate works from the Paris Louvre’s collection, displaying art from each period and style. When it opens, 300 masterpieces from the Paris museum will be displayed.

Musée des Augustins

The fine arts museum of Toulouse reopens February 19 after renovating its garden and gallery spaces. From June 22 through October 14, the museum will host a grand exhibit dedicated to Caravagisme.

Picasso Museum

Picasso lovers get ready! After being closed for renovations since August 2009, the Picasso Museum in Paris will reopen in 2013 with modernized and restored galleries. The renovated museum will feature additional gallery spaces, allowing for more than 500 of Picasso’s works to be on display. Additional cultural, scientific and educational events will also be held here after the reopening.

Château de Versailles History Gallery

A new gallery showcasing the history of the famous Château de Versailles will open in the garden level of the north wing in 2012. It will feature eleven rooms that display multimedia animations and 3D models showcasing the construction of the chateau and its gardens, as well as its developments over the years.

Paléospace Museum

This new museum opening in Deauville (Normandy region) is dedicated to local paleontology and scientific discoveries from the past 165 million years. There will be dinosaur reconstructions and interactive displays, in addition to a collection of fossils. The kids will enjoy this one!
