For its 2015 edition the Tour de France has announced Utrecht as the departure city. It will be the sixth time the Tour de France starts in the Netherlands, the first one being Amsterdam in 1954 and the last one Rotterdam in 2010. Utrecht is the Netherlands’ fourth biggest city where the bicycle occupies an important place. As proof, the world’s largest bicycle parking station with a capacity of more than 20,000 bikes will be built near the railway station.
So far the first three stages for Le Tour have been announced.
Stage 1: Individual time trial over that starts and finishes in Utrecht on July 4th.
Stage 2: Ride from Utrecht to Neeltje Jans, an artificial island in the province of Zeeland.
Stage 3: The third stage moves the tour to Belgium with a ride from Antwerp to Liège (stage finish TBC).
