REASONS TO DISCOVER TUSCANY
Capital of Tuscany, Florence is the birthplace of the Renaissance and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From museums and art galleries to Middle Age and Renaissance architecture, there are plenty of things to do and see in Florence. Make sure to spend some time in Florence during your bike tour in Tuscany!
The Italian wine and the Tuscany wine in particular, is one of the best in the world. While in Tuscany, take the opportunity to go on a Chianti wine tour. The vineyards of the Chianti region are perfect for a bike ride: just cycle along and enjoy the sunshine and the good wine!
Located in the center of Tuscany it is yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site! Siena is famous for its horse race, the Palio, a medieval tradition that takes place right in the center of the old town in early July and mid-August. The entire town has a very strong medieval influence with its old narrow streets and just as Florence, it is filled with art work from the Renaissance.
Whether crowned by timeless villages, covered by vineyards and olive groves or strewn with wildflowers, the hills of Tuscany have one thing in common: they’re perfect for exploring on bikes. Pedal to lofty hill towns, spin through broad valleys and follow sinuous country roads past cypress-lined lanes and quiet woodland.
Well-known for its wine, Tuscany will also enchant you with its cuisine. The Tuscan gastronomy is one of the best in Italy and as different as the Tuscany landscapes itself. There are the typical recipes from the countryside and the Mediterranean recipes straight from the coast of Tuscany. Try the ribollita – a vegetable and bread soup – or the panzanella – a bread, tomatoes and onion salad topped with olive oil. Don’t miss out on the local cheese: the famous pecorino. And treat yourself to a few Cantucci (almond cookies) dipped in wine; a well-deserved treat after cycling through the vineyards!
REASONS TO DISCOVER SARDINIA
The Island of Sardinia boasts some of the most beautiful beaches of Italy and Europe. The water is so clear and the sand so fine you will feel like you are on a deserted island in the Caribbean.
The city of Oristano and its region are one of the most authentic areas of Sardinia. This is one of the most ancient cities of the island, dating back to the medieval period. Be sure to visit the historical city center. It is stunning!
The fauna and flora are abundant, outside and inside the water. From pink flamingos to colorful fish, you will be astonished by its diversity.
Sardinia is also a gourmet island. The Vernaccia d’Oristano wine, the olive oil, the red beef meat from Montiferru, the oranges of Milis and the bottarga from Sinis are delicious!
Greek or Roman ruins, Medieval villages or the nuraghe (typical round towers dating back to 2000 B.C), there is always something to discover while cycling in Sardinia!
REASONS TO DISCOVER UMBRIA
Umbria is quite similar to Tuscany and one of the lushest regions in Italy. You will cycle through gentle hills, olive groves and vineyards. Umbria also hosts a National Park and seven Regional Parks, a true delight for nature lovers.
Maybe the most important religious city in Italy after Rome, Assisi was home to Saint Francis (father of the Franciscan monks) the patron saint of the country and one of the most beloved religious figures in Italy.
The Umbria gastronomy is a mixture of rare and traditional ingredients, like prosciutto and porchetta (two different kinds of ham), and many cheeses.
From Saint Francis to nowadays, Umbria has played an important role in the history of Christianity. Cycling through its villages you will see some of the most beautiful churches, cloisters and abbeys in Italy.
In the cobbled streets of each city and village you will find some hidden treasure. The small villages around the Trasimeno Lake are picturesque, while bigger cities such as Perugia, Terni, Foligno, Spoleto are filled with art.
REASONS TO DISCOVER DOLOMITES
This thermal spa and small city is perfect to rest after a riding day. Enjoy the hot water coming straight from the thermal sources underneath the city.
You will cycle by lakes and rivers, through parks and forests, across valleys and mountains. The perfect scenery for an active vacation!
Cycling around the Dolomites, you will discover many villas and mansions belonging to the ancient noble families of the Venetian region dating back to the XVI and XIX century.
These unique constructions are an important part of the region’s tradition. They were used by farmers during the “alpeggio”: in the summer they brought their cattle to the top of the Alps to let them enjoy the fresh air and grass of the Dolomites. These buildings are where they produced milk, cream, butter and cheese.
Yet again the cuisine of this Italian region will make your trip! Less known than the Mediterranean cuisine, the mountain gastronomy is as delicious, even tastier and with heartier flavors.
REASONS TO DISCOVER VENETO
Enjoying the imposing mountains of Lake Garda, cruising along Lake Garda from north to south, discovering the medieval fortification of Montagnana.
Lake Garda is a lake in the Italian Alps. It is the largest lake in the country.
She served as a frame for the Shakespeare tragedy “Romeo and Juliet”.
The city does not include any roads, only canals.
REASONS TO DISCOVER SICILY
Discover various aromas and flavors, specialities and also Sicilian wines.
Here you can explore many ancient ruins with physical representations of the regional past.
Social life is more engaging. We like to chat for hours outside the house, in a café, in a restaurant.
From green to blue, there’s something for everyone. Sicily will seduce you with its countryside, forests, beaches, turquoise water, volcanoes and mountains.
This beautiful destination will take you on a journey through its architecture which bears witness to the Roman, Byzantine, Arab and Norman influences.
REASONS TO DISCOVER EMILIA-ROMAGNA
If the name of Parma fills the readers of Stendhal and Proust with nostalgia that of Parmesan makes greedy people salivate.
A quaint little postcard village.
What city can pride itself on having a plate as the best ambassador in the world? You must try the famous Bolognese sauce.
A city full of assets, that will attract art lovers as well as enthusiasts of beautiful mechanics.
