Arrival in Bordeaux

Bordeaux is a large city with good rail access and commercial airline flights from several European capitals. This historic city is very picturesque and offers a variety of attractions, including wine museums and shops for local wines. If you arrive early enough, take the chance to visit the Cité du Vin in Bordeaux. Transfer on your own to the hotel, settle into your hotel.

From Bordeaux to Blaye

Enjoy Bordeux before you leave, its exceptional heritage, visit its Cité du Vin and stroll along the Quays of the Garonne. This UNESCO listed metropolis is magnificent. Get on your bikes to reach Blaye through small roads in the middle of the great vineyards of the Médoc such as Margaux. Arrived at Lamarque, take your bike to cross the Gironde Estuary (ticket: about 3 € per person not included). Here you are in Blaye.

From Blaye to Mortagne-sur-Gironde

In Blaye, take the time to visit the Vauban Citadel classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site before leaving for Mortagne. You follow the Estuary which widens over the kilometers, you will leave the vineyards of Blaye. You will drive to the port of Mortagne sur Gironde, labeled "Villages of stones and water". You will discover the village from the top. Its belvedere with its orientation table is one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the Gironde, the largest estuary in Europe.

From Mortagne-sur-Gironde to Soulac

This morning, you will leave Mortagne to join the Ocean. You will stay on the edge of the Gironde Estuary all day long, you will cross the marshes, preserved landscapes, wild nature, some small villages are on your way to stop and enjoy. Arrived in Royan, you will take the ferry (not included, to be paid on site) with your bike to reach Le Verdon Sur Mer. Take advantage of the crossing of the Estuary to observe the extent of the Atlantic Ocean and admire the Pahre of Cordouan in the open sea. You will have about ten kilometers left to reach Soulac sur Mer, a beautiful seaside resort on the Atlantic Ocean. Take advantage of its small shopping streets and small typical villas of all colors.

From Soulac to Hourtin

You will leave Soulac and ride on the Vélodyssée, a famous bicycle path that runs along the Atlantic Ocean from North to South. Heading due south, you will cross pine forests with sometimes a view of the Ocean between the dunes. Enjoy the quietness of this bike path. You will reach Hourtin and its lake which is the largest in France.

From Hourtin to Lacanau

You will still be all day long on the beautiful cycle track the Velodyssey. You will ride along the Atlantic coast, its immense beaches and you will ride through a dense forest of maritime pines. Tonight, you will make a stop in Lacanau, a small town of surfers by the ocean.

You will leave Lacanau along the lake and then head towards the pine forest to reach Bordeaux. You will take a bicycle path which will make you discover small villages in the middle of the forest like Saumos, Sainte Hélène or Salaun. You will then join the periphery of Bordeaux to finally reach Bordeaux.
